White Elephant (noun)
For the third year, we've been lucky enough to be invited to Pamela's for her annual holiday party. An evening with friends is always wonderful, the food is great and the Christmas trivia is always a ball. But the most entertaining portion of the evening is always the White Elephant gift exchange. I've seen some pretty bad gifts over the years. The glitter trees, the cat cookie jar and the singing Santa outhouse. But this year, there were no holds barred. Thankfully, we came home with the Ohio State bobble heads and some new ornaments for the fun tree. Others were "lucky" enough to leave with a nude butler toilet paper holder, palm tree lamps, leg lamps (ok, I really wanted one of these!), pink sequined Santa hats, etc. Again, we were the lucky ones. But my favorite gift of the evening was the stocking ornament awarded to the winning trivia team. Did you know that the swans were the most expensive day in the twelve days of Christmas this year. I didn't either, but thankfully my teammate Ben did.
