As a parent, you want your children to experience everything that life has to offer. Those of us that are realistic know that all of their experiences won't be positive ones. But all of them will shape their lives. Unfortunately, you hope that some of these moments will come later in life - leaving them time to be kids.
Last night, H attended a candle light vigil for a classmate and friend that was shot and killed yesterday. A teen love affair gone wrong. A HS senior snuffing out the life of another...a bright young woman with her entire life ahead of her and then taking his own life. It's every parents nightmare.
Tonight, as the boys sleep soundly in their beds, I will be saddened by the experience that they've been forced to endure. They've been introduced to the real world - where not everyone is nice, where life isn't always fair and one persons poor decision can have dire consequences.
