Fortune cookies - the highlight of Chinese takeout. I mean, where else can you get beef and broccoli with a side of puppies and rainbows. "Sing and rejoice, fortune is smiling on you." "Everything will come your way now." "Here's your lucky numbers."
After making fun of happy go lucky fortunes, I realized that the Chinese food industry would be out of business if they filled fortune cookies with real life. Who wants to open a cookie that reads "Sing and rejoice, but you're still not getting that promotion" or "Everything will come your way, including that train".
But no matter how lame and generic fortune cookies are, they are still the highlight of our Friday night, kids have plans, day before grocery shopping dinner. Jeff and I race to open them, thankful for the unrealistic dose of sunshine that we'll find inside.
